Western Highlander Businessman Calls for support from Government to grow more SME’s

A Papua New Guinean, who owns a building complex next to Lae’s Kamkumung market, has called on the government to support SME’s.

Western Highlander Entrepreneur, Tommy Kara says in this current economic climate, all levels of government must support local business growth.

In Lae, Kamkumung is known for all the wrong reasons: drugs, homebrew and disorder, but there is change happening slowly.

There are businesses operating in the area. Entrepreneurs see huge potential, and they’ve put down the money to invest- and Tommy Kara is one of them.

Mr Kara has opened a K2million building complex along the main road.

He says the challenge has been competition from shops owned by expatriates.

There has been a lot of talk about the small to medium enterprise policy in the country, where Papua New Guineans will own and operate their own businesses.

Papua New Guinean businesses need the incubation space to grow, pressure is being mounted on all levels of government especially parliament to make it more favorable for more local businesses to start and grow.
