To continue delivery of telecommunication services around the country, Telikom PNG is bringing 3G and 4G wireless connection to remote rural areas.

The West New Britain Provincial Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding and presented a cheque of K200,000 to Telikom PNG. It was for the installation of infrastructure on Bali Island.

This falls in line with the provincial government’s aim to bring connection services to the province.

The MOU signed yesterday will see telecommunication services extend to Bali Island that will benefit at least 10,000 people.

The entire project is worth K1.2 million.

Telikom’s Group General Manager Engineering, Jefferey Bean, says this will enhance communication in the province reaching up to a 30km radius on the island.

“This is the same as upgrading a road, enabling rural areas to get connected. What it means with the new 3G and 4G is almost endless possibilities; getting alerts tsunami warnings, online banking in a real time scenario” said Mr Bean.

West New Britain Provincial Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel says, this development service is greatly needed in remote rural areas that do not receive much attention from state agencies.

He said this will give priority for the province which has been struggling with connection services. This is especially on Bali Island which has been pinning for services for more than 20 years.

“ Basically we are putting money to good use, I will support my Governor with funding allocation to make sure that Telikom services are rolled out throughout the entire province” said the Member for Talasea, Francis Marus.

Governor Muthivel also announced that the provincial government will assist Telikom PNG in their service delivery around the province especially as they will play host for the 7th PNG Games.

Meanwhile, Telikom PNG has already begun preparations for the upcoming PNG Games.
