50 Vietnamese in Court For Illegal Fishing in PNG

The 50 Vietnamese men who were apprehended in December 2016, for illegal fishing appeared before the Waigani District Court, this morning.

The fifty were transported to the court premises from Down Town Port Moresby, for their first mention.

It was a special case and was prosecuted by officers from the National Fisheries Authority.

All 50 appeared before District Court magistrate, John Kaumi for the same charge of Illegal Fishing, under the National Fisheries Act.

The 50 were apprehended by PNG Defence Force Naval Officers in December 2016, in the Milne Bay waters.

They were taken to Alotau and escorted to Port Moresby where they are currently undergoing their court process.

This is by far, one of the largest illegal fishing matter the NFA will be prosecuting.
