A new 10 Km road was constructed last week in the Nabak area of Nawaeb District in Morobe Province. The road is expected to ease 11 years of difficulties faced by locals in accessing government services and transporting their produce to Lae.
More than five thousand people from Gawam and Simbuen Jitare will benefit the most as the road now link their villages.
A former councilor, Yatu Nomayong spoke of their suffering for over a decade. In the past, people of Simbuen Jitare area, walked for more than 10 Km to get to Gawam village, for a PMV ride into Lae, where they could access hospital services and sell their produce.
Last week, Nawaeb District provided K50,000 for the road’s construction. Women from both villages expressed their gratitude during the launching of the new road over the weekend.
Member for Nawaeb, Kennedy Wenge anticipates that the road will also attract tourism. Nawaeb District has completed its five-year development plan which was endorsed by the DDA last week.
