Yumi Yet Estate: Houses Destroyed Tenants Assulted

Several houses have been damaged, and tenants assaulted at the Yumi Yet Real Estate in Port Moresby.

The incident was alleged to have been committed by police last Thursday.

Managing Director of Yumi Yet Real Estate, Eke Lama, has condemned the actions of the police officers involved.

In recent weeks, the police force has come under intense public criticism and scrutiny, because of their behavior. The alleged incident at the Yumi Yet Real Estate Portion 2577 at Gerehu stage 2, in the Nation’s Capital, is one of the many incidents involving the police.

It happened at 11:30am last week Thursday. A female police officer and a male colleague demanded access into the property to arrest a tenant. But they were refused entry by the security guard, resulting in the incident.

They destroyed this canteen, confiscating all items and cash. Security guards manning the gate were also brutally assaulted. They proceeded to the Baptist Church and destroyed the pastors’ house and the church. The total cost of damage is more than K107, 000.

Managing Director of the real estate firm, Eke Lama, has lodged a formal complaint with the police. He is still waiting for investigations to be carried out. But he says, court proceedings will follow if no action is taken by police.
