Youths Fix Potholes In Madang Town

A group of youths in Madang’s Wagol Pikus Settlement are taking the initiative to patch potholes in Madang town to provide some comfort for motor vehicle owners.

Former Ward 5 councillor of Madang Urban Local Level, Ambros Basse, says this is a community service engagement as road conditions in Madang remain poor.

On Sunday the group of men decided to start work on the road as it is a dangerous location for both motorists and pedestrians.

The group of men engaged in this community service work have never undergone any civil engineering training; however their passion was evident.

Madang traffic and Sigma Construction assisted them with tools to ensure the road is patched up properly.

For these men, small acts of community service like patching the potholes, cleaning drains and clearing pathways of residential areas is their way of earning an income.

One youth, Lowa Gigmai, says it is not always that we depend on the government for everything.

But as citizens of Madang it is on every person to take on the responsibility.
