Welcome to this special Women’s World Season highlighting Gender Based Violence prevention and response in Papua New Guinea.
In this edition we feature Women as champions of change, or rather, empowered women – empowering women. You may ask, why? Because empowering women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors, is essential to build stronger economies, achieve internationally agreed goals for development and sustainability, improve the quality of life for women, men, families and communities. Women empowerment is also a response and prevention to Gender Based Violence.
In the first segment we explore women empowerment, and what that means for PNG – what is the national strategy, and how are we addressing sustainable development goals.
Later we share the types of organisations that make their core function to empower women and girls – ultimately, strengthening their needs to address Gender Based Violence in PNG. These are women as champions of change.
More available in this season are the interrelated themes of Gender Based Violence including, health sector responses, legal and policy challenges, counselling and care for survivors, language and cultural beliefs and what men and women can do as champions for change.
