West New Britain Ready for 7th PNG Games

Host province, West New Britain has confirmed participation and readiness for the upcoming PNG Games.

In a phone interview with EMTV Sports, West Britain Team Manager, Peter Prior, said West New Britain will be competing in all 21 codes at the Games.

With just 10 days to go before the opening ceremony of the 7th BSP PNG Games, Team West New Britain is currently utilising the newly built facilities, for training.

General Team Manager, Peter Prior, told EMTV Sports that they are only expecting some of their Paralympic Athletes to arrive in town sometime this week as they are based outside the township.

“All the codes are currently in training now that accreditations are complete. We’re only waiting on the Para Athletes residing in Kandrian, Gloucester and Talasea to arrive in town,” said Prior.

With over 500 athletes currently confirmed to take part in the games and officials numbering over 600 in total, Kimbe is ready to take on the games.

“We did not do so well in the last two PNG Games edition where we finished 9th in both and now with the home ground advantage we have, we aim to finish high,” added Prior.

Heading into the tournament next week, Team West New Britain looks to finish in the top 5, if not, first.

For now training continues, as they await the rest of Papua New Guinea to make their way to the West.
