Wereh: Suspension of Brian Alois an Internal Matter

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Brian Alois is an engineer by profession. Following his presentation publicly stating that the government had inflated cost of road works, Mr Alois was removed from his job as Works Engineer.

Works Secretary, David Wereh, said the suspension of Mr Alois is an internal matter, however, Secretary Wereh has urged Mr Alois to provide facts to his outburst of inflated rates used by the Works Department.

Wereh said the cost of business has changed dramatically and cannot be compared with the past 20 years, adding the cost of business has changed as the Department adapts to new ways of constructing roads or bridges.

Alois’ suspension has not gone well with the Institute of Engineers in PNG. The IEPNG has voiced concerns for the reinstatement of Mr Alois, however, Secretary Wereh is urging Mr Alois to verify his public statement. Wereh said the rates provided and used as guidelines by the Department is a collective decision made with development partners and financial institutions.
