By Ken Jacob, DWU Journalism Student

McKoi Malt has urged fellow graduates to remain committed to service, perseverance and hard work after completing their studies at Divine Word University.

Malt graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Management and Systems Development during the university’s 44th graduation ceremony recently in Madang and was named valedictorian of the graduating class.

He was also awarded the Leadership Award in recognition of upholding the university’s core values and demonstrating strong community spirit. He was also among the top gold medalists for academic excellence, the university’s highest academic recognition.

In his valedictory speech, Malt gave all glory and honour to God for guiding him through his academic journey.

“My success today is by the grace of God,” he said.

“Like everyone else, I had my own struggles during the journey, but I am thankful to God who gave me the strength to persevere.”

Malt, who comes from Minimp Moika village in Western Highlands Province, also served as the 2025 Student Representative Council President at the university.

Addressing fellow graduates, he encouraged them to remain focused on their dreams and goals despite the challenges they may face.

“Never give up on your dreams and goals,” he said.

“Work hard, persevere and use your education to serve others and make a positive difference in our communities.”

Malt said the university’s motto, “Sic currite ut comprehendatis – Run to Win,” reminds students that education is not only about personal success but also about serving the greater good of society.

He said graduates should carry the university’s values of service, humility and leadership wherever they go as they contribute to the development of Papua New Guinea.
