The new student apartments at the University of Goroka have brought the level of its student accommodation to another dimension.
The fully contained apartments will house over 100 female students next year. The apartments constructed by a Chinese construction company had a total cost K170million.
Vice Chancellor Dr Gairo Onagi said the University still has a long way to go. The University needs to build new staff houses to cater for the increasing number of students.
Dr Onagi said the University is producing the quantity part of education, which are the new apartments. The quality aspect is the lecturers, and their need of more staff houses, to deliver quality education to its students.
Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso has since pledged K1million to help build new staff accomodation. The Governor wants the University to be an active partner with the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government.
Meanwhile Departmenty Prime Minister Leo Dion said the Government is planning for more children to go to universities, and the new student apartments are part of this plan.
