Agencies under the transport sector – Department of Transport, Road Traffic Authority and National Maritime Safety Authority are under the spotlight according to Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, William Samb.
The minister has given a stern challenge to the heads of these agencies to come up with incentives in contributing towards the vision statement of taking back PNG.
With transportation and infrastructure playing a vital role in driving the country’s economy, the agencies are tasked to deliver accordingly.
He made these remarks at the start of a two-day workshop hosted by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure with the theme ‘Inclusiveness of Transport System as a conduit to services to take back PNG.’
The three agencies under the transport sector made presentations on policy initiative, transport plans and challenges faced in service delivery among others.
Samb said as a way forward, the ministry will look for alternate transport systems like a railway and solar-powered transport systems and the use of drones.
The agencies are expected to come up with incentives and way forward to contribute to the economy and service delivery at the end of the two-day workshop.
