Telikom Announces $53 Million Deal With American Giant Aviat Networks

Telikom PNG has struck a multi-million deal with American wireless transmission giant Aviat Networks. Formal announcement was made yesterday by Telikom PNG Management and Aviat Networks.

This will see a creation of 143 kilometers of high speed transmission, to boost PNG’s current National Broadband Network. This new network will provide a faster and reliable broadband service, connecting Port Moresby to Lae, Madang, Goroka and Mt Hagen.

 

Telikom’s Board Chairman Mahesh Patel said, the aim is to connect more people for fixed line calls and internet services. The whole point is to bring better services to doorsteps of every individual, added Mr Patel.

 

Chairman Patel also said, the type of work needed to build this infrastructure, draws the know-how expert from Aviat Networks.

 

This will see the establishment of a nationwide backbone networking major cities, towns, districts and rural communities in PNG.

 

The project will be rolled out in 3 phases, phase 1 will commence in June, 2nd phase in September while the final phase is scheduled for completion in November 2014.
