Team East Sepik will be sending five codes less than what it initially planned. This was brought to light in Wewak following a K10,000 cheque presentation from MP Richard Maru this morning.
The fund is specifically for the boxing team and it will go towards the boxers’ levy fees.
Team manager Clearance Hukahu said funding is the main barrier.
“Our attitude of fighting and ill-discipline is the main reason why most of our MPs are not supporting us,” said Clearance. He said he is now appealing to other members in East Sepik including the governor to assist the team in any way they can.
The K10,000 donated today by Minister Maru was from his discretion funds. The sporting codes confirmed to take part includes volleyball, soccer, boxing, beach volleyball and sports for people living with disabilities.
The team will be travelling to Madang by air and travel down to Lae on road.
