SUCCESSFUL CEASFIRE OF LAGAIP OPEN ELECTION RELATED TRIBAL FIGHTING

Two warring tribes in the Surinki constituency of the Lagaip district have agreed to make peace after a successful lengthy ceasefire negotiation recently.

The Surinki Local Level Government President Hon.Douglas Tamarua reported that the Kunalin and Waitin leaders along with the Enga Provincial Government Law and Order officials plus security personnel’s on the ground issued Preventive Orders to the Lyein and Tumbiam tribes not to fight each other again.

Tamarua reported that both the Lyein Tribe and the 9 Tumbiam clans accepted the ceasefire orders and vowed to lay down their arms as of today.

Tamarua added that any other mediation that may arise will be heard by the Joint Sirunki-Laiagam Law and Order Committee as sanctioned by the Enga Provincial Government accordingly.

Meanwhile, the surrounding Kunalin and Waitin/Yolo tribes also got Preventive Orders restraining the warring factions from entering their tribal boundaries while awaiting the date of dispute resolution.

The Surinki constituency is mostly made up of peace loving tribes and hosts the Yaskom Resort Hotel which is a hot spot for international tourists who frequent this area because of its geographical uniqueness and beauty.
