Strong winds warning from National Weather Service

The PNG National Weather Service has issued a strong wind warning this morning with an expected storm force winds to hit Vitiaz Strait, Solomon and Coral Seas by this Friday.

The affected communities will be those within the mentioned areas – especially Western, Gulf, Central, Milne Bay, Morobe, Madang, Manus, East, and West New Britain.

The weather report also stated northwest monsoon winds are peaking and surges coming through at 25 to 34 knots with stronger gusts reaching 48 knots expected to continue for the next 24 hours causing rough seas and high sea waves.

The National Weather Service is advising all seafarers to take safety precautions and not to travel out from Thursday evening throughout the weekend.
