SOLIDIFYING PATHWAY FOR ACCOUNTING STUDENTS IN GOVERNANCE AWARENESS
Transparency International Papua New Guinea and University of Papua New Guinea School of Business and Public Policy formalized a five-year Memorandum of Understanding.
This partnership is an investment in “Integral Human Development,” providing students with hands-on experience that bridge academic learning with the professional realities of the governance and civil society sectors.
Running from 2026 to 2031, this collaboration consolidates a relationship between both parties that began in 2023. Since then, TIPNG has hosted two batches of accounting students who provided vital support in financial record-keeping and reporting during their 13-week attachments.
TIPNG CEO Arianne Kassman said that beyond the numbers, this program is designed to build character.
“We want to strengthen the students’ principles so they can lead with honesty and integrity. In a country like Papua New Guinea, where strengthening governance and accountability is critical, the role of financial professionals in upholding ethical practice is paramount,” she said.
She also added that internships as such, are a gateway towards investing in the next generation of Papua New Guineans, who will one day lead PNG’s institutions, manage its resources and shape the future of the country.
By establishing this formal partnership, TIPNG and UPNG School of Business & Public Policy are fulfilling a shared responsibility to nurture professionals who prioritize service to the nation and contribute to a more accountable and prosperous Papua New Guinea.
