The Dauri Landowners Association will be marching in protest next week if their demand of k100 million in compensation payment, is not met by the Government and the Department of Lands and Physical Planning.
The landowners, in a brief meeting yesterday, were preparing their petitions and organizing the protest march regarding the Koitaki Plantation case, a case that has taken almost 99 years to address.
General Secretary of the Association, Jeffery Borari said a submission covering various claims regarding the Koitaki Plantation Land at Sogeri, was submitted in 2010, to then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Lands and Physical Planning and Mining Sir, Puka Temu.
After the submission, no response was given to the issue resulting in the association sending follow up letters to the Secretary and the Minister.
Again no acknowledgement was given.
It was not until 2012, that a letter was received by the Association from the Acquisition Manager Customary Land, Lazarus Malesa, stating that the Acquisition Section of Customary Land Service Division had received the association’s claim and the task had been delegated to the manager, Acquisition, Southern and Islands for perusal and status check.
The landowners are demanding the Department of Lands and physical planning and the Government to pay them the amount of K100 million as compensation or the plantation will be forcefully taken by the landowners.
Companies operating in the area will also be affected and this will also include the Sogeri National High school.
Lands Minister, Benny Allen, is yet to make an official comment on the issue.
