The Small and Medium Enterprise Corporation has partnered with the Renewal Lutheran Church of PNG to facilitate SME programs for women and youths in Western Highlands Province.
This was announced during the opening of the Church’s resource center at Kagamuga outside Mt Hagen recently.
It is a pilot project where small entrepreneurs can undergo training.
The program will involve women in textile training and youths in life skills training.
Trade and Commerce Minister, Sam Basil has committed to provide funding to train women and youths in SME programs, to enable them to access SME funding.
Reverend Peter McBain says the Church is tapping into new grounds to balance the four aspects of life, by partnering with the government to improve the human integral development.
Reverend McBain said life skills and SME trainings are some of the needs lacking in PNG societies, and demands more attention from both Churches and the government.
Meanwhile, the resource centre will house many office spaces that will see Pastoral training, as well as enrichment programs for the church and the public.
