Six Mile Storms For Cup Final Playoffs

It was a dream comes true for boys living around the six mile area in Port Moresby, to find a spot in the Coca Cola Ipatas Cup final playoffs.

The boys have come through the Schoolboys Development Program, and will now make their debut in the competition.

The Six Mile Storms were a class above the Dep Eels in the Southern leg playoffs of the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup.

They won the gold pass and will join hands with Whitehaven Brothers, representing the Southern Region in the playoffs in Lae.

The team is made up of rookies, freshly scouted from the Schoolboys’ Rugby League Development Program.

The club went through thick and thin, looking at all possible avenues to develop their youngsters.

The recent major highlight of the club was the Governor’s Cup. They made a debut in the competition, and scored themselves the second placed spot.

As they prepare for the Cup playoffs, the six mile communities have thrown in their support in cash and kind.

Businessman Michael Kandiu has raised his hand with K10, 000 while the team will continue to raise funds to meet their cost to Lae.

The players are currently in training, and will select a final team at the end of the week.

Meanwhile, the Western Highlands, Southern Highlands and Enga Provinces completed their playoffs over the weekend.

The three gold pass winners will sail down the Highlands Highway, the following weekend, to meet the other teams in the finale.
