Sir Matiabe Yuwi, a founding father who contributed to the development of the PNG National Constitution passed away late last week.
It was a challenging moment for those who gathered yesterday at the Sioni Kami Memorial Church, to celebrate the loss of senior statesman who struggled not only for his clan but for national interest.
Late Matiabe is not known by many, but was instrumental as a leader in the days of Sir Michael Somare, Sir Julius Chan, Sir Peter Lus and late John Guise. His political career began in 1968 when he entered the House of Assembly by majority vote.
Finance Minister and member for Tari Pori, James Marape said his passing away leaves a vacuum for Hela and Southern Highlands Province leaders. He challenged all leaders to continue the good work late Yuwi has done and put Hela where it supposed to be.
Late Matiabe’s body departs for Tari today and will be laid to rest on Sunday at his News village, Homa. He is survived by 2 wives, 9 children, 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
