Brisbane-based band, Sheppard have taken out the sizzling Best Group award, beating 5 seconds of summer, among other music stars, at the biggest Australian music award’s night in Sydney.
Nomintated in six other categories,the Geronimo hit makers won Best Group, Bombs Away at the 2014 ARIA awards.
The indie pop band took to twitter, the big news and were grateful for all the support they had received.
“What the actual?!!!! We are thrilled to have won an #ARIA for Best Group! Thank you for your support,” they tweeted.
The band has had a huge year as their debut album ‘Bombs Away’ hit the ARIA Album charts at No. 2. Their worldwide hit Geronimo, from February, maintained its number 1 spot on the ARIA singles chart for three weeks.
The hit was then certified as 4 x platinum by ARIA in September. Two months later and Geronimo has gone platinum in Italy.
The band toured Europe, among other continents and even made an appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’.
Despite their busy schedule this year, the band made a special visit to Papua New Guinea, the nation of their upbringing, and performed at the Prime Ministers’ Charity Gala at Dynasty.
Their catchy sing-along lyrics complemented by perfect harmonies and group vocals has taken the world by storm.
A day after the award ceremony and the members are still receiving congratulatory messages from their fans for their well-deserved award. The thrilled band posted to facebook an eventful image of the indie-band with the accompanying message
“Still pinching ourselves! Thank you for the congratulatory messages.”
