SCHOOL SELF-FUND BORE WATER SUPPLY

By: Benorah Carrie Hesehing in Wewak, ESP

BRANDI Secondary School in East Sepik province opened a new bore water supply using the parental support collected for the academic year recently.

The school principal Mr Anthony Boiefin said the bore water supply cost the school over K100, 000. The school had to go with the project because it addresses the issues of no water supply and water being the highest expenditure in the school’s budget.

At the 58th grade 10 and 23rd grade 12 graduation, where the school graduated a total of 449 students, East Sepik Governor, Hon Allan Bird opened the new bore water supply and launched the school’s online management system and the website also.

Governor Bird congratulated the school and the parents for taking the initiative and being self-reliant. He said such an effort deserves government’s support and intervention. Doing something good to help yourselves when most think otherwise or may want to wait upon free handouts.

Governor Bird committed to funding the purification of the water supply and reimburse half the total cost of the project.

DB Deep Water Drilling, the project contractor company put up this water project for a cost of K113,000 and half of this amount would be reimbursed by the governor’s office.

In addition to this project, the school also benefited from the EU STREIT PNG Program which through a donation to the school , helped to set up a resource centre with 15 computers for the student’s to use.

Mr Boeifin said this approach is beneficial to the school because it does not have the monetary capacity to erect a computer laboratory for the students to do research and learn computing.

Meanwhile, a proper science lab has remained the school’s need for a long time. In fact, a science laboratory frame was erected over a decade a remained incomplete as there was no capital to complete this school’s project.

Mr Boiefin says with the East Sepik Governor’s executive decision to chip in half a million kina to fund a new science lab for the school with the secondary school is looking forward for better academic performance in the future.
