Safety Risk for Aviation and Maritime Sector

The Nationwide strike by employees of the National Weather Office has placed the safety of the traveling public at risk.

Those greatly affected by the strike are the airline and maritime sector.

This afternoon, our crew visited the national weather office and the National Weather Service office was closed with its main entry door locked.

Yesterday at the close of business, employees stopped work, protesting against the Transport Department, for failing to address their outstanding grievances.

Among them was salary discrepancy.

They told EMTV New, this strike is indefinite until a written agreement is reached.

Aviation and the marine industry will be greatly affected with the strike .

Airline operators were asked to comment on this issue.

Speaking off camera, they told EMTV News, they are working closely with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the PNG Air Services Limited.

Today was normal operations, but airline operators are uncertain when will this issue be solved.

In the meantime, broadcasters providing weather update, as of today, have not received the daily weather reports.
