This has forced many people to make expensive trips overseas, to receive such treatment. This was highlighted by Pacific International Hospital CEO, Doctor Amyna Sultan, during International Nurses Day in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Dr. Armyna also revealed that there is a shortage in the number of nurses in PNG.
The celebration, themed 'Nurses a Force for Change: A vital Resource for Health', highlighted some of the sad facts in the Health Department of Papua New Guinea.
Many clinics and rural aid posts still lack the basic equipment needed to treat patients. With the increase in health issues, Dr. Amyna said, PIH will be investing into building a Nursing School. This is an initiative aimed to improve the nurses’ performance at work.
The celebration included item presentations from nurses in the different departments. Out of the sixty two nurses at PIH, an estimated thirty attended the event.
Dr. Chan said, Nurses are the first people patients seek medical advice from before seeing a doctor, and encouraged them to perform their duties as a team.
