Property razed, believed to be in retaliation

House burnt in Newtown Madang

A property at Miliok Street in Madang’s Newtown area was razed at around 10am this morning.

According to eye witness accounts, an unknown group of armed men are thought to have carried out the attack in retaliation to an alleged murder that occured last night, where, thieves attempted to rob three women.

Eye witnesses say, the women were saved by another faction who was there when the incident occurred and intervened.

The thieves sustained knife wounds and were taken to Modilon General Hospital for medical assistance, where, according to unofficial reports from police, one is dead, while two are admitted.

Eyewitnesses believe it is that death of one of the men, that provoked the armed men to burn down the house today but quick action by the police saved two women from the burning property.

Police are now monitoring the situation and investigations are underway.
