PONTES FC SECURE DOUBLE VICTORY IN MANUS GOVERNOR’S CUP

Pontes FC celebrated a double victory in the 2026 Manus Governor’s Cup football tournament. The team from Lorengau Urban LLG secured back-to-back titles, while their development squad finished in fourth place.

The tournament, which kicked off on March 23 with 41 teams, concluded yesterday afternoon at Prince William Oval. Pontes FC defeated Hawaii FC from Lelebupi 2-0 to claim the championship and a K12,000 prize. Hawaii FC took second place with K8,000, while Pontes Development FC earned K5,000 for third place, and Council Centre Rebels FC received K3,000 for fourth.

Tournament director Kakau Karani expressed satisfaction with the event and congratulated Pontes FC, noting that they were defending champions from 2025. Consolation prizes were also awarded: top-eight clubs received K700 each, top-16 clubs K400 each, and outstanding players were awarded K200 each for their efforts.

Karani said the tournament showcased Island football and encouraged the growth of the sport. He added that the event included age-group competitions and a women’s division, ensuring wider participation and engagement in football across the province.
