At the conclusion of each 6 week program, all involved unions throughout Papua New Guinea will conclude with a Rugby Festival.

PiU Country Manager, Frank Genia, will be visiting Rabaul this week to assist and ensure preparations for the one-day festival on Thursday which will be run accordingly.

The categories in which children will participate in are the Under 9s, Under 13s, Under 15s and 16 years and over for both male and female.

Genia is thoroughly impressed with the influx in participants over the last 6 weeks; he was also pleased to know that since the inception of PiU in schools throughout Rabaul, interest has widely increased in females.

“It is fantastic that of the 3,000 children participating in the PiU program in Rabaul, a little over 50 percent of them are girls. The support shown by Education Department, the schools and the community has been outstanding,” Genia said.

He also said that an MOU will be signed this week between the Education Department and the PNGRFU in conjunction with PiU.

Monier Limited will be an important feature as one of the minor sponsors for the festival, working alongside East New Britain Rugby Football Union sponsor, Pacific Industries Limited.

The schools and teachers especially have taken ownership of this program and will see it culminate in a big festival this Thursday.
