UNITECH Football Club of Lae Football Association and Prima Power Soccer Club of Lahi are the inaugural champions of Football Federation of Papua New Guinea’s Northern Conference 7s in the Men and Women’s divisions.
The two day tournament, the shortened and exciting version of soccer or football, was proudly sponsored by Mineral Resource Development Company (MRDC) and supported by Coca Cola Amatil (PNG).
The tournament attracted teams from Madang in Madang Soccer Association and Nabasa FC, Goroka who came with Goroka Football Association and Courts FC, Finschhafen, Bulolo, Situm and Lae City duo, Lahi and Lae Football Association (LFA).
In the men’s final, Unitech defeated City United 2-1 in a penalty shoot-out, and walked away with K4,000 in prize money and the 7s Cup. City United settled for the runners up cup and K2500in cash.
Prima Power defeated Wantoks of LFA, 3-0 in Women’s final bagging K2,500 and the women’s 7s Cup.
Wantoks settled for K1,500 in cash prize money, and the runners-up cup.
In the men’s competition, Unitech FC filtered with National Soccer League players such as Eliud Fugre, Joshua and Rodney Talau, Freddy Steven, Henry Ronny, Sammy Hiob and Manu Yawi started off on a losing note nevertheless ended up in the finals.
