PNG Games to Commence as Planned

The 7th PNG Games will commence as planned after it was delayed to November this year.

“The games have been delayed, and I want the Sports Minister to confirm and also to subsidize travel costs as the province has put in K20million in developing its facilities to host the games,” Muthuvel said.

The Sports Minister in response assured the games will go ahead as planned and the Government will subsidise travel costs.

“We will also provide extra funding once we table the supplementary budget,” Mr O’Neill said.

Mr O’Neill also recommended that host provinces must be given ample time to prepare to host the country’s only grassroots sporting event.

“Provinces must be given at least 3 years to prepare, so it gives enough breathing space for them to budget and deliver,” O’Neill said.

The 7th PNG Games will be held in November in Kimbe, West New Britain Province.
