Chairman of the Games, Phil Franklin, said infrastructure maintenance on all 19 venues in Lae City is currently underway and should be completed before November.
The question of security and housing arrangements is another topic of interest, what with an estimated influx of over 9, 000 athletes competing in 28 codes at 19 different locations, not to mention the amount of spectators and supporters.
Mr. Franklin explained that Lae City hosts the Morobe Show and there are more people and participants that make their way to the Show, than what will be expected for the PNG Games.
He further stated that 5 mobile squads and other law enforcing agencies will be available and security will be under control.
The housing factor will be accommodated by Lae City schools whose facilities, what with the students’ completion of their academic year, should provide housing for athletes.
PNG Games Chief Executive Officer, Materua Tamarua, explained that the administration of the Games has a robust plan and will stick by it.
Mr. Tamarua said the support from the community and corporate houses is overwhelming and the objectives set by the administration are well on target.
