Pieter Zwart Back On Track To Defend Title

Last year’s South Pacific Export PNG Open champion, Pieter Zwart, will return to defend his title in the two headline golf tournaments over the next two weeks.

The Pro Am golf tees off today with Coca Cola Morobe Open, before heading to the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club next week for the South Pacific Export PNG Open.

The two premier golf tournaments have attracted both professional and amateur golfers over the years. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the National Championships.

The championship is shaping up to be one of the best ever, and once again the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club  is looking forward to playing  host to some of the finest golfers from around the Pacific, including Sam Brazel, Michael Wright and Wayne Perske.

To the Organizers’ delight, last year’s South Pacific PNG Open champion, Pieter Zwart will return to defend his title with eight former champions also competing in the championship. Zwart will have to be on his game if he is to repeat his feat from last year.

Unfortunately, Lincoln Tighe will not be returning to defend his Coca Cola Morobe Open title because of his late start at the PGA Tour event in China.

Tighe’s absence is a loss for the tournament; the field is one of the strongest over recent years and will include previous winners in the likes of Josh Younger, Heath Reed, Brad Burns and Michael Wright.

PNG will have a strong representative with Nelson Gabriel along with brothers August and Robert Peni looking to end the recent dominance Australian and New Zealand professionals have had on their premier professional golf tournaments.

Results from the Coca Cola Morobe Open and South Pacific Export PNG Open will be available on the PGA website daily.
