Palais Focus on World 7s Series

The PNG Rugby 7s Women’s Team, the Palais, are well on their way to a good 2017 campaign.

Coach, John Larry, said his side is aiming to be the first team to qualify for the HSBC World 7s Series.

With the Palais’ training well underway, Coach Larry said the team has been in camp for the last few weeks, and among them, are three debutantes as well.

The 18-woman team itself, is an exceptional new lot. All of whom will be taking part in the first leg of the HSBC World 7s series will be on April 7-9.

PNGRFU Interim-President, Steven Kami, said their ultimate goal for this year’s campaign is to be a worthy and threatening opponent.

Being a dominant team in the region, the Palais have a shot at a 7s World Cup debut given that Oceania has two qualifying spots.

The only threat to PNG is Samoa.

The team will be leaving next Thursday for Brisbane where they will finalise training before taking Sydney early February. All are part of the build up towards their Hong Kong appearance.

Meanwhile, there are already plans in place to send both the men’s and women’s team to Fiji for tougher training, after the 2017 campaign.
