Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, will be in the Hela and Southern Highlands Provinces after next week’s parliament session, to discuss LNG landowner benefits, following Exxon Mobil’s announcement that it was ready to sell gas, way ahead of schedule.
He said the government is yet to fulfill most of the UBSA benefits agreements signed in Kokopo. The landowner benefits will be jointly managed by Exxon Mobil, and the government while awaiting the clan vetting process to complete.
Many projects agreed to in the Kokopo UBSA, are still outstanding, and he will deliver some of it in his visit there. These projects include the handover of the Komo International Airport to government, sealing of Tari Komo and Mendi Tari roads among others..
Prime Minister O’Neill, also said Tari town will be powered up using its own gas. He described the completion of the construction phase of LNG project, as a successful story for the country, a project achieved without much injury, and ahead of time.
An elated Minister for Finance and Member for Tari Pori, James Marape, welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement to deliver the outstanding commitments, and to power up Tari town using its own gas.
He said the province will be looking forward to this visit, which is scheduled after the parliament sitting next week.
