Traditional landowners of Portion 12, Halowia, Nigila Village in Alotau are appealing to the Governor of Milne Bay Province, Titus Philemon, and the Member for Alotau, Charles Abel, to intervene and stop an eviction exercise on Monday.

They want their parliamentarian leaders to stop the actions of Tano Dawahi Limited from trying to evict them from their traditional land Portion 12, Halowia.

The landowners say the land was taken from them by Tano Dawahi through alleged fraudulent means which they are pursing through court. They are now appealing to the leaders to intervene and stop the abuse of customary land.

They are also appealing to Lands Minister Benny Allan to forfeit the land title and return the land to the landowners.

Nabak Local Level Government is one of the 33 LLG’s of the Nawaeb District in the Morobe Province.

Over the last six decades, they have been struggling to see their children get a better education or treatment at the village aid post.

But the Nabak people are resilient. They know that the government won’t come. Using their traditional ties, they banded together.

They build their own schools, and take turns to carry medicine to their small clinic because of no road access.
