The NCD Athletics Association hosted its fortnightly preseason competition.
Despite the absence of sprint stars, Kupun Wisil and Nelson Stone, organizers are hopeful that the new batch of athletes will one day go on to represent Papua New Guinea.
While the pace may not have been blistering, the preseason meet for one of the biggest athletic associations in PNG is slowly beginning to set the foundation for a big 2017 season.
Featuring a small number of athletes in a number of events, the association is looking to boost their numbers through the year.
John Gitiri, from the Association, says some of their runners will take part in the upcoming PNG Games, in Kimbe this November.
Apart from the open divisions there was also the opportunity for younger sprinters to line up.
Apart from the 100m race, other events included the 800m, and Long jump.
When queried about the field events such as the Javelin and shot put, they were unable to comment.
A number of PNG’s best runners have come through the ranks, taking part in these meets.
It is only a matter of time before the next crop of talent is ready to be showcased.
