The National Agriculture Research Institute in Lae will soon launch a pilot project to boost food security and improve rural livelihoods with solar powered rice processing technology in Morobe Province.

The solar powered rice mill introduced by the project is a new innovation developed by Project Support Services Limited.

Project Support Services Limited had invested two years of commercial research and development to ensure the product is ready for the PNG market.

The Solar Rice Mill will minimize the challenges of local farmers in other districts of Morobe, from travelling long distances to Lae just to mill rice.

The technology has been field tested for a year in partnership with rice distributon company, Trukai Limited.
