Mt Hagen City Authority conducted awareness campaigns for residents to stop operating illegal trading in the City.
According to the City Manager, Jim Pena, the City Authority is an Act of government, and they will use its powers to provide municipal services to the City.
Mt Hagen City Authority staff took a day off last Friday (February 12) to clean the City, as well as carryout awareness to outline its roles and responsibilities, after becoming an Act of Parliament in 2015.
This was to clear up confusion of their roles and responsibilities in the city.
The Mt Hagen City Authority will start to remove illegal markets in the City as they pose as an eyesore to the province, where PNG’s third largest city is located..
Those who are currently operating illegal auto parts opposite Mt Hagen police station will be evicted and the illegal live animal market at Pope’s Oval will be shut down to create bus stops. Furthermore, the selling of animals will be prohibited.
City Manager, Jim Pena says the City Authority will remove all illegal liquor shops, illegal markets, and will provide the needed support to police to carryout this exercise.
