Morobe’s Softball Team in Lae has been removed from the Provincial Sports Team list for the 7th PNG Games in Kimbe.
Team Manager, Billy Bray told the media team in Lae that they were told by Morobe’s Sports Manager, Ludwig Peka, that they were removed from the list to travel.
EMTV News in Lae contacted the Provincial Sports Manager for a clarification. He said the matter is a management issue and the decision was finalized 2 weeks ago.
24 players, 12 each in Men’s and Women’s division were told last week that they would not attend the PNG Games in Kimbe.
Team’s Coach, Vivian Yawing, said the teams has undergone training and were prepared for the 7th PNG Games in Kimbe.
They were confident to defend their Title as Silver medalist attained during the 6th PNG Games, held in Morobe in 2014.
The Coach said Team Softball was aware that funds have been delegated by the Provincial Government and Lae District to support the Teams.
Morobe’s Softball Team Manager, Billy Bray, said they were told last week by Morobe’s Sports Manager, Ludwig Peka that team softball was cancelled from the team list.
A Councilor and former softball PNG Rep, Carol Yawing demanded an explanation from Morobe Sports Division on what will be done with the funds allocated for the team to travel.
We sought clarification from the Provincial Sports Manager, Ludwig Peka who said the matter was a management issue.
Peka says only 19 codes team was eligible to travel. He said the decision of Team Softball being removed from the list was made by the management two weeks ago and it was final.
