Bulolo MP and Deputy Opposition leader, Sam Basil, today questioned the Government’s plan to fix deteriorating roads in Morobe Province.
Basil said people are being affected, and the Government must put in place a short term solution.
The question was directed to Works Minister, Francis Awesa.
Wau Bulolo MP, Sam Basil, raised concerns for the Yangalimu Bridge and Mareh, both were washed away recently.
“Mining trucks, PMV’s and the general public are being affected,” said Basil.
Minister responsible, Francis Awesa, says the Government had met on Monday, and approved K20 million for damaged national highways, including Morobe.
“That K20 million will also include damaged sections in parts of Morobe,” said Minister Awesa.
However, the Bulolo MP says, the current level of damage on Morobe roads calls for a quick response, and the Government must act immediately and not depend on long term solutions.
Minister Awesa further explained that current weather patterns are having an impact on the country, and the State has considered necessary steps to address the problem.
