More Health Workers Needed in Kabwum, Morobe

By Lucy Kopana – EMTV News, Lae

Health services in the Kabwum District of Morobe Province are currently faced with two problems, the lack of staff, and medicine shortages. This was confirmed by District Administrator, Fidelis Harisol, who says despite these challenges services continue to be delivered.

“In terms of the health services in the district, most of the health posts or aid posts are un-staffed, and we also have shortage of medical supplies but I think we are operating ok… in terms of medical supplies, I think we should be alright in the next few weeks.”

In December last year, EMTV News reported that more than twenty aid posts in the Kabwum District were shutdown due to the lack of staff.

Musa Bosing, a community health worker at the Yalumet Health Centre says this is partly due to challenges faced by health workers in the rural areas.

He said the Government should look at new graduates so they can occupy and provide health services for the rural population.

Mr. Harisol said the district will look at addressing this problem.
