A local coffee exporter company has been actively fighting the Coffee Berry Borer in Eastern Highlands Province and other parts of the Highlands Region.
The Coffee Berry Borer or CBB has severely affected the Coffee production in the country, particularly the small-holder coffee farmers who produce bulk of the coffee beans that are exported overseas.
Monpi Coffee Exports Limited, through its Coffee Extension Service arm Smart Management Services has been providing Brocap Traps to coffee growers to help them battle the spread of the disease.
CBB infection has negatively contributed in the gradual decline of coffee export overseas experienced in the general coffee production over the last five years.
Apart from providing Brocap Traps, Monpi Coffee has been carrying out awareness and conducted training to assist coffee growers to help prevent the spread of CBB.
The company recently provided 150 cartons of Brocap traps and conducted training in Komunive Community in the Lower Asaro area of Daulo District in Eastern Highlands Province.
The coffee berry disease was first detected in Banz in the Jiwaka Province a few years ago and since then; the local company has tirelessly carried out awareness on CBB interventions in Eastern Highlands, Jiwaka, Western Highlands and Enga Provinces. The local company is adamant that the newly established Ministry of Coffee will take note of this ongoing plight in fighting against the spread of CBB infection in the coffee producing provinces of the Highlands Region.
