Mining Minister Visits Ok Tedi

Mining Minister, Johnson Tuke, has concluded his first visit to Ok Tedi Mine in Western Province.

His visit is the first under the PNG Mines Familiarisation and Visitation Program.

Minister Tuke and Secretary for Mineral Policy and Geo Hazard Management, Harry Kore, were taken on a tour of the mine’s operations by OTML Managing Director, Peter Graham, and Deputy CEO, Musje Werror.

Since the start of operations in 1984, OTML has extracted 4.65 million tonnes of copper, 30.2 million ounces of silver and 14.3 million ounces of gold.

In 2016, OTML paid a total dividend of USD47 million or K150 million to the Government of Papua New Guinea – in addition to paying a total of 3.3 percent to the national GDP and a profit after tax of USD121 million or K338 million.
