The measles outbreak in the National Capital District has more suspected cases despite the massive vaccination plan.
Six more cases from NCD and one from Central Province have tested positive at the Central Public Health Laboratory at the Port Moresby General Hospital. This brings the total confirm cases up to nineteen.
Health Authorities say, the vaccination plan in NCD will extend to all districts in Central Province starting tomorrow.
Meanwhile Western province will start vaccination of all children from 6 months to 15 years starting in North Fly and South Fly next week. Vaccination in the area of positive cases in Tabubil and Olsobip will start soon.
One of the positive cases in NCD was a medical student attending paediatric unit who tested positive for measles.
Health worker vaccination in Port Moresby General Hospital including vaccination of all medical, nursing and paramedical students with measles vaccine has been triggered to provide protection against future exposure to the on-going transmission of measles in the community or while attending sick children in wards.
