Maru: China For Trade Ministers Meeting

Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Richard Maru will join other Trade Ministers from APEC member countries from the 17th to 18th of May, 2014 in China to advance APEC’s work towards the realization of a Free Trade Area of Asia Pacific.

Five pillars prioritized to be discussed by the ministers include Economic Reform, New Economy, Innovative Growth, Inclusive Support and Urbanization. All this will be tabled by the APEC member countries to formulate a roadmap in achieving a free trade Asia Pacific.

 

Minister Maru will also be having bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, and China to discuss trade and other development cooperation issues.

 

Minister Maru said discussions will also be based on existing cooperation amongst APEC members for Ministers to explore linkages among innovative development, economic reform and growth and promoting pragmatic cooperation and long-term development.

 

This two day meeting is a follow-up of the APEC meeting held last year in Bali. Minister Maru left today accompanied by the newly appointed Director General for the Trade Division, Ambassador Max Rai.
