Finance Minister James Marape has called on the Games Organising Committee to come forward with variations with regards to the 2015 Pacific Games infrastructure.
He said the O’Neill-Dion government has committed a huge slice of the budget to support the games at all costs.
Marape made a bold statement that the decision to host the games was made in 2006, however, the allocation of work and funding began in 2012. He added that the O’Neill-Dion Government took their responsibilities seriously and the games were a top priority.
With the government nearing the 2015 budget lockdown and 2014 budget oversight, Marape said that cost variations is an exception to see the projects complete on time.
“This government has seriously budgeted and are working to allow all major sporting infrastructures to be completed prior to the games”, said Marape.
He said despite recent media publication surrounding funds relating to the games facilities, Mr Marape said the national government has called on the GOC to come forward and present a cost over-run.
Minister Marape is confident PNG will successfully host the games and leave a legacy for other pacific nations come 2015.
