Maprik Mayor Wants Outstanding Grants

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Maprik Town Mayor, Paul Dingu, wants outstanding functional grants to support his office.

Mr Dingu says funds allocated for 2017 and 2018 remain in doubt giving little space for the administration to operate.

He says his administration is currently being supported by internal revenue collected from market fees and other urban levies.

Mr Dingu says, the National Government must keep to its word and release those funding. He says this has been a major setback in his administration. Over a K100, 000 is yet to be collected as functional grants by the Maprik Urban Council.

Many projects initiated by Mr Dingu and his administration remain incomplete. One of them is the new urban council office and the courthouse.

With the Electoral Commission announcing that the LLG Elections are nearing, Mr Dingu wants projects to be completed.

He says if another mayor is appointed, the outstanding grants must be released.

Mayor Dingu is now using levies collected from services provided within Maprik town.
