After nearly two years of planning, a new national highway is almost ready for people in Madang and Simbu.

Usino Bundi District Chief Executive Officer, Augustine Koroma, says vehicles with four wheel drive are now using the road.

Koroma says the road is now the new access to the Highlands region.

“Now the road is in use with only a portion at the Baya Bridge to be completed,” said Koroma.

The road is said to bring economic benefits for both Usino Bundi people, and other communities inMadang.

“Communities along the new road must be prepared, the public will travel and there is a bigger chance of earning money from selling garden produce,” said Usino Bundi MP, Anthon Yagama.

The new road access will now take 3 to 4 hours to travel from Madang to Simbu.

The road is in use with only a portion at the Baya Bridge to be completed.

The Bundi Simbu road is hoped to be officially opened next month.
