Lie in state ceremony for late Governor General, Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio

 

A Lie-in state ceremony for the casket of late Governor General Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio was held at the Government House in Port Moresby this morning.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia, diplomats, state ministers, government officials and fepartmental heads were present for the viewing ceremony.

The casket of the late Governor General Grand Chief, Sir Michael Ogio arrived at the Government house this morning for the state viewing.

Pall bearers comprising PNGDF soldiers and Navy officers, carried the casket into the Government House.

The casket was accompanied by family members and widow, lady Esmie Ogio.

Sir Michael, 75’years-old from Tinputz in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, is survived by 5 children and, 8 grandchildren from his previous marriage.

He was the Second Vice Regal to pass away while serving as the Governor General of Papua New Guinea.
