More than 5,000 people living in wards 2&3 in Ambenob LLG of Madang District are threatening to shut down water supply into the town area on Monday.
They say their petition presented on the 20th of June this year to the Provincial Administrator, Provincial Police Commander (PPC) and Water PNG management have not been met.
The two-page petition among other things demanded an end to armed robberies and petty crimes in the area.
At 4pm yesterday community members and leaders in the Ambenob LLG met at Beon Road junction.
The meeting was to decide on their next plan if their demands are not met by Police and Madang Provincial Administration.
In the petition they demanded an end to criminal activities, the sealing of the road, and for a police post to be built.
its been 3months since they last staged a peaceful march in Madang town to present their demands.
Community leaders said they have not seen any of their demands fully addressed since the last time they met with the provincial administrator, Daniel Aloi, and the PPC, Jacob Singura.
Women also took the time to express their fear of being attacked by criminals.
Community leader, Henry Makul, says they need a response from authorities by 3pm on Monday.
This morning another clash broke out between two factions of the community where houses were reported being burnt.
From unofficial reports the clash resulted from an accident last Saturday at the Chimbu lodge at Sisiak 3 Settlement where the driver of the vehicle was killed.
Meanwhile, our attempts to get response from the Provincial Administrator and the PPC on this morning’s clash and the demands presented by the locals were unsuccessful.
